$8M Allocation to Create 20 Homes in Vermont

Champlain Housing Trust, Inc (CHT) supports residents and communities in northwest Vermont by developing permanently affordable homes and stewarding the largest community land trust in the U.S.

Through its Shared Equity Program, CHT has created homeownership opportunities for more than 1,220 families since its founding in 1984.

The latest HPN-Smith NMTC transaction allocated $8M in NMTCs to build 20 condominiums in the city of Winooski, an area with the most racially and ethnically diverse population in VT, to address growing concerns of gentrification. CHT provides significant down payment assistance in exchange for its buyers’ agreement to a future resale value that captures equity appreciation while also keeping the home affordable for the next purchaser. CHT will proactively market these homes to the BIPOC community.
