Nancy J. Azerolo
Finance Director
Nancy J. Azerolo, who brings more than 40 years of experience in private and public accounting to Smith NMTC Associates, LLC, uses her background in corporate tax, compliance, and tax credits to guide borrowers through New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) accounting requirements.
Since joining the firm in 2010, Nancy developed a comprehensive system of training for external accounting teams, auditors, and bookkeepers that empowers them with the tools and knowledge they need to meet the extensive accounting requirements of NMTC compliance. This system has been implemented for more than 120 Qualified Active Low-Income Community Businesses (QALICBs). When QALICBs request additional training or new employees join QALICBs, Nancy works with them on a daily, monthly or as-needed basis to ensure they understand the transaction from an accounting standpoint. She also reviews their accounting entries on a regular basis for adherence to NMTC requirements.
Nancy prepares the leverage lender accounting and tax returns for NMTC transactions, as well as the accounting, reporting, and audit preparation for the Sub-CDE’s that Smith NMTC manages, working with outside auditors and CFOs of Smith NMTC’s CDE partners. Nancy also works with Smith NMTC’s outside accounting firm to manage the accounting and reporting requirements for the company audit.
Previously, Nancy worked for more than a decade at Sabino & Company, LLC, a Missouri-based public accounting firm. Her background also includes 10 years in accounting at Roadway Trucking and nearly a decade of work in guest services and accounting with Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts.
For three years, Nancy has volunteered as the treasurer of Foundations of Love, Inc., a local nonprofit organization, which strives to give adults with developmental disabilities a stable place to live.
A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of CPAs, Nancy received her bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in business management from Maryville University of St. Louis, where she graduated magna cum laude.
