Pittsburgh Urban Initiatives and ELDI
Smith NMTC recently closed a project in the East Liberty district of Pittsburgh. Working with East Liberty Development Incorporation (ELDI) and Pittsburgh Urban Initiatives, Smith NMTC is stewarding a $6.72 million investment in the neighborhoods of East Liberty, Garfield, and Larimer to acquire and rehabilitate 26 homes for eventual purchase by low-income residents.
Each property is consistent with the East Liberty Community Plan that was developed through resident input and illustrated a collective desire for transforming the low-income community through mixed-income diversity. Residents also contributed input to site location, with site plans vetted at numerous community meetings.
ELDI works directly with current low-income tenants to move them into homeownership through the Circle program and has helped identify residents who will become homeowners through the new inventory generated by this collaborative project.
