Homeownership Within Reach

NMTCs are being used to create a new supply of affordable for-sale homes in low-income communities nationwide.

With over $475 million in QEI transactions, the NMTC/for-sale affordable housing model is a demonstrated success for homeowners and communities. Leveraging the existing federal tax credits is a proven strategy to expand the supply of single-family for-sale housing at price points that are attainable for the residents of economically distressed communities.

The goal of the NMTC/for-sale housing model is to restore the ecosystem of homeownership that sustains a tax base and viable workforce in the qualified communities, organically disrupting the poverty chasm through renewed opportunity for individuals and families to build and transfer equity.

Through the Homeownership Within Reach coalition of CDEs, developers, communities, and policymakers, we aim to build awareness of the model and support for the use of NMTCs to expand homeownership opportunity.
